The Low Fat Party Meals
Lots of
low-fat foods can be served at parties and special occasions:
- Crisp
vegetables with a dip blended from cooked chickpeas, lemon juice and
garlic.
- The flesh
of a roasted eggplant blended with lemon juice and roasted cumin
powder. Serve with flatbread crisped in a slow oven.
- Seafoods,
but not battered or crumbed. Oysters, prawns, scallops, crab,
yabbies and fish of all varieties are low in fat. Choose a
Thai-style chili sauce for dipping, or use lime or lemon juice, or
low-fat yoghurt with fresh herbs and lemon juice.
- Skinned
chicken breasts marinated in lime juice, garlic, chili, lemon grass,
ginger and a spoonful of palm sugar; grill or barbecue.

Un-dressed salads; serve olive oil and balsamic vinegar separately.

Vegetables - fresh asparagus, cherry tomatoes, green beans, roasted
capsicum; leeks (marinate in lemon juice, fry in a non-stick pan);
steamed tiny new potatoes, tossed with fresh dill; barbecued
zucchini sprinkled with balsamic vinegar; steamed pumpkin balls.
- A large
bowl or platter of fruits for dessert or with drinks.
